Why Some Lipsticks Last Longer than Others

Some lipsticks last longer than others mainly because of their oil content. The higher the oil content, such as lipgloss, the quicker it will wear off. The lower the oil content, the longer it lasts on the lips.

The next time you go shopping for a lip smacking product to jazz up your lips consider this:

• Lip gloss wears off rather quickly, because of the high concentration of oil found in lip gloss.


• Cream lipstick, is longer lasting than lip gloss, but it still doesn't wear as long as matte lipstick.


• Matte lipstick wears longer than cream lipstick, however, it is dryer than cream lipstick and more difficult to apply to the lips. A lip brush is especially useful for matte lipstick.


• Longer wearing than matte lipstick is long lasting, or long wearing lipstick. While long lasting/wearing lipstick may be your answer to color staying on your lips, the problem is that it can be extremely drying and difficult to apply. So if you already have dry lips, you may want to rethink your purchase.


• The longest lasting lip color actually is not lipstick at all - it's lip pencil. However, if you have ever used a lipstick to completely color your lips, you know how difficult it can be to apply, and how it dries the lips.

The best thing to do when shopping for lipstick is to buy what you love, but if it's drying, don't wear it everyday.

Older Lipstick

As lipstick ages, it looses its moisture content, making it harder to apply. If this happens to you, don't toss your lipstick out. Instead, after you've applied your lipstick, brush over it once with your favorite clear lip balm.

The lip balm will help you smooth out your lipstick easier; your lips will have a beautifully colored shine; and you'll save a few dollars by being able to use your favorite lipstick longer instead of tossing it out.

1. Apply a lighter shade of foundation or concealer than what you use on your face to the outside area of your lips. A finer line will do - no need to get carried away here.


2. Draw the outline of your lips with a lip liner closely matching the color or your lipstick.


3. Fill in the lined area with your favorite lipstick using a lipstick brush.


4. Apply lip gloss to the center of the top and bottom lip.

You changed your mind - you don't like that lipstick..

You have on all your makeup except your lipstick. You choose a shade then decide you don't like it. Us girls do that - it's a girl thing. If you rub it off, it's still there.

To easily remedy the situation, wipe the lipstick off with an oil-free eye makeup remover, prime the lips again and start over. This trick works great for removing red lipstick too!

Pouty Lips without Lip Liner

If your lips are dry, we suggest that you take a vacation away from lip liner for a while, as they can be very drying. Lip Liners help define the shape of the lips and can give you that much sought after pouty lip. But without lip liner, how do you get that pouty look?

For pouty lips without the lip liner, dot above the center of the upper lip with a light highlighting powder. This trick works best for light skin. While you are at it, place some highlighter at the tops of the cheekbones too.

Lipstick on teeth

Some women have problems with lipstick transferring to their teeth. Try this solution to the problem.

• Try using a lip primer, followed with your favorite lipstick. Lip primer holds lipstick in place and lipstick wears for a longer period of time.
• When applying lipstick, don't overdo it, a little is better than too much.
• Finish by wrapping a tissue around your pointer finger, or using your bare finger, stick your finger in your mouth, close your lips and pull your finger from your mouth. This removes lipstick that would normally transfer to your teeth to the tissue or your finger.
