Taming Hair Frizz and Clinging Clothes

I was out last week and near water when my hair started to frizz up on me; then I remembered an old trick. I reached into my purse and pulled out a sample size bottle of skin lotion that I always carry. I dumped some on my hands, rubbed it somewhat into my skin and then ran my hands through my hair. It tames my frizzy hair everytime. Although it doesn't replace hair products designed for the dreaded hair frizz, it is a great hair tip when your are in a pinch.

Lotion is good if you are wearing something that wants to cling to your nylons too. Rub your nylons with lotion while they are still on you, and the cling goes away. I used this trick for 20+ years when I worked in an office and wore nylons and suits everyday.

Removing Dandriff with Epsom Salt

Removing dandruff with epsom saltIf you are troubled with a flaky scalp, try removing dandruff with Epsom salt.

Here's how:
With your hair still dry - take one or two tablespoons of epsom salt and massage it into your scalp. The salt helps to lift and loosen those ugly dead skin cells (dandruff flakes are dead skin cells).

After a thorough massage, wash your hair with your regular shampoo using a scalp brush. Before you start to rinse your hair, comb the bulk of the shampoo out of your hair. The combing action pushes the flakes that you have loosened with the epsom salt to the ends of your hair for easier washout. Now, rinse your hair well and condition as usual.

My favorite relaxation method (unfortunately I forget it too often)

The best way that I have found to relax my entire body, including my brain that should be diagnosed as hyperactive, is this:

After taking a warm bath (not required, but it helps get me into the "zone"), slip into my cozy PJ's, climb into bed with a lavender scented candle burning, and then lay flat on my back with my arms slightly away from my body.

Beginning at the tips of my toes, I focus on each part of my body, an inch at a time, reminding myself to relax. I work this relaxation technique from the tips of my toes, all the way up my body, not forgetting the tips of my fingers and muscles in my arms. When I reach the neck area, which seems to be a focal point of stress for me, I spend a little extra time in this area before moving on slowly to the top of my head. This relaxation technique usually takes 20 minutes and I am always amazed at how good I feel when I'm finished.

I hope you are able to try this sometime. It's almost as good as getting a massage at a spa.

Teeth tip for pictures

This tip was recently shared with me by a professional makeup artist I spent some time with one afternoon. Before a photo shoot, swipe a little vaseline on your teeth to make them look their best in photos. Thank you Mary for sharing!

Beauty Essentials for Women

Makeup brushes: Eyeshadow (large and small), brow brush/eye lash comb, cheek brush, lip brush, powder brush, eyeliner brush, eye crease brush.

Sponge: For cake foundation: Soft, hard or natural sponge. Water is not required with soft or hard sponges. Use water with a natural sponge.

Cotton swabs: Use to remove small amounts of wayward mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow and of course, clean the ears!

Cotton balls or cotton cosmetic swabs: Remove eye makeup with the aid of an oil free eye makeup remover.

Eyelash curler: Curl eyelashes prior to adding mascara.

Tweezers: For shaping the brow and removing annoying hairs that pop up here and there.

Eyebrow scissors: Brush eyebrow upwards and trim.

Eyeliner pencil sharpener: Similar to a lead pencil sharpener, but designed for eyeliners, or forget the sharpener and purchase a mechanical eyeliner pencil.

Finger nail and toe nail clippers: Finger nail clippers have a rounded edge. Toenail clippers have a straight edge.

Finger nail file: Use it to shape, not reduce their size; reduce nail size with nail clippers.

Orange stick: Push down the cuticles with an orange stick.

Cuticle trimmer: This little razor sharp item trims away overgrown cuticles. If you have never used one, be very careful not to cut in too deep. It works wonders after you master it. It may turn out to be one of your best friends.

Magnifying mirror: Not our best friend, but it sure is a godsend.

Razor - Remember to replace them often to prevent rashes and itching cause by a dull blade.

Tooth brush: Don't forget to brush those pearly whites at least twice daily.
