According to New York dermatologist Albert M. Lefkovits, MD in the summer/fall issue of New Beauty: "Dandruff, or seborrheic dermatitis is caused by excessive oil on the scalp that leads to inflammation, whereas simply dry scalp is itchy and dry because it it dehydrated."
He goes on to suggest ..."treating dry scalp with a mild shampoo and conditioner to help hydrate, and dandruff with prescription-strength treatments like cortisone gels or lotions and shampoos containing selenium sulfide, pyrithione or zinc, or antifungal drugs."

Avoid shampoo and body wash with sodium lauryl sulfate. If you have
dandruff, use a herbal medicated shampoo. Apply green tea to your scalp daily.
