Self Tanning Tips
The goal in using a self tanning lotion is to provide a natural-looking tan without the sun. Maximum color effect is achieved usually within a week with daily use. Thereafter, to maintain the "tan" it should be applied two to three times a week.
When using self-tanning lotions, use less of the tanning product on the elbows, knees, ankles and knuckles to avoid unevenness than what you use on other areas of the body. These areas are naturally darker and a heavy application of self-tanning lotion will cause them to appear dirty.
Wash the lotion from the palms of your hands immediately after application to avoid staining.
Allow the lotion to dry completely before dressing, going to bed or applying makeup to prevent the product from transferring or smearing. If it does, you'll be left with an uneven "tan" and your tanning product will be where you hadn't intended!
If you hate the smell of self tanner's there are a few on the market with little scent. I am especially fond of Mary Kay® Subtle Tanning Lotion they introduced this year. It has a pleasant and gentle smell, moisturizes the skin, applies easily and the "tan" looks very natural. I've used it myself and have been extremely pleased with the product and with its smell.
